Stuff We Love That Other People Don’t

#127: How do you deal with people who insist on telling you they don’t like what you like? Have you given up on something because other people tell you it’s bad? And how can you have a productive conversation with someone who disagrees with you?

  1. I didn’t have many geek friends growing up in elementary and middle school. At a certain point, people stopped liking stuff like Pokémon and anime. I got made fun of a lot for playing World of Warcraft too. I stuck with both of them for a long while because they just made me happy. I had at least one friend that played both and I found my people in both in different online places. I mostly lurked, not talking to many folk but that was my community, my people. I’ve also never liked giving up stuff I enjoyed, so it’s been funny seeing everyone reminisce and enjoy Pokémon again and geek stuff in general. I just stayed with stuff because I liked it, and even stuff that’s less popular or more popular. Everyone should be able to enjoy things they like and celebrate it, the world could always use more joy.

  2. Haven’t listened yet, but it sounds like me loving Iron Fist, the show. I’m 10 episodes in and people are hatin on my boy Danny Rand!
